Studying takes a huge part of most young people’s daily life which means going back and forth to and from educational institutions is pretty much what they do most of the time. However, we can notice that some students are doing better than others, and are able to get higher grades while their peers seem to be all over the place. In this post, I will draw your attention to few study hacks and skills that most uni honor students master and as one I think this post can be authentic enough to hand a little help to you college students out there. So, without further intro here’s my list👇
1– THEY KNOW HOW TO GET BACK ON TRACK
Trust me, I’ve been there dozens of times where I thought that I’ve lost control over my semester and that there was no way out neither to get back on track nor in time… simply because no one had ever invented the fairytale time machine. However, instead of standing still and do nothing about it I would usually start from there and make it clear to myself that I am solely left with one option and that is to save myself from drowning even deeper. As a primary step, I collect all what I have: lectures, lessons, projects, presentations and all the work I have to do… then, I organize all what I have, categorize them and decide from where I should start and how… a pen and a piece of paper will never let you down at this point.
2– They Know Their Strength And Weakness Areas.
They know what they should focus on to improve and when to do so. Meanwhile, they know what subject/module they would use a back up plan to boost their grades in case things go wrong at a certain point, instead of simply wasting their precious time trying to improve in an other module/subject when they are running out of time and forget about what could’ve been a piece of cake extra credit to them to boost their grades. As an example, let’s take this student who is quite weak at literature but pretty good at civilisation so that student would first make sure that he/she is mastering civilisation to assure an extra credit and not just ignore it and convince himself that he got this and everything is cool… then, he would use his spare time to work hard to improve in literature.
3– THEY DON’T COMPARE THEIR PROGRESS TO OTHERS’
Personally, I tend to avoid comparing my university journey and my overall progress with others’ simply because nobody is me. I don’t trust looks and don’t judge books by their cover and that’s why y’all always need to recall this ” You can never bring me down and you can never faze me” (curious- MBLM4) trust your own abilities and go from that. What I want to say is that sometimes you think just because somebody is working harder than you means they are better than you which is not always true and that may cause lack of self-confidence issues eventually, you may loos control over your semester.
4– THEY ENJOY THE PROCESS
Having fun can change how you feel about studying in general. You can study while actually enjoying what you’re doing… Make studying interesting to you even if that means that you have to take a short break every 20-25 minutes… if that what works better for you! Do it! Also, Study in your favourite spot whether that means your bedroom, a local coffeeshop or local library just figure out what you enjoy the most and create that chill vibes environment that would help you to concentrate. Also, you may use stickers to make it more fun, you can as well watch a movie or a play about a given topic you are dealing with at the moment in some module for extra pill of fun.
5– THEY FOCUS ON UNDERSTANDING OVER MEMORIZING
Memorizing can be helpful in your elementary school days or even in highschool’s history class but to be a university student who can’t go deep in what they are supposed to be specialized in… well this sounds like a problem I believe. You should be prepared to get to the real world because that’s what university is training you to do… After Uni, there comes the real world. Focusing on actually understanding what you are studying will help you to understand your exam questions way better and excel in future job.
6– THEY GO DEEP IN DETAILS
Reading an article about a topic that I have just dealt with at my university, watching a movie about it, reading a blog/website post about it, or maybe reading a book that has been referenced during the course will put you ahead of the game. Knowing more about the topic for pleasure will allow you unconsciously to jot down more information and loads of necessary/needed details on your exam paper better than any of your classmates can do.
7– THEY ARE AWARE OF THEIR LEARNING STYLES
Learning about your learning style can save you loads of time trying to dig a given information inside your brain. You can take few online tests and you’re cool with that. Every honor student has their own learning style that they have adapted with over their studying years.
8– LEARNING STRATEGY IS THEIR MASTER KEY
Knowing about your learning style is wonderful but developing a personal learning strategy of your own based on what works best of you is definitely priceless. This one you can develop it over time and is usually designed based on individual past studying experiences, it also included favourite studying setting, time, colors used, paper type and little details as such.
9– MOST IMPORTANT> LEAST IMPORTANT
So I mentioned few lines up that honor students go through details that most of their colleges don’t pay attention to… However, classifying the degree of importance of a given set of detais and information creates a big difference in your ranking and overall grades so pay attention to that. Honor students tend to focus on the focal points while igonring or dropping the least important ones or at least give that little extra part the least attention it requires.
10– THEY ARE GOOD PLANNERS
Good planning skills lead to impressive results by the end of the semester. Most students seem to be so on edge whenever the finals are around the corner. However, trust me even if you are a last minute buddy you can still make it through if you know how to plan/design your study schedule… Planning will put you ahead because in the end of the day it helps you to get your own thing so that you can deal with the bumps on your path because you are already prepared for that.
Thank you so much for stopping by… See you next time 👋👋
